IEC Standards
IEC 61850 was issued in 2002-2004 with some 1700 pages across some nine parts
There are now some 70 identifiable Parts of the Standard, over 30 of which are published current versions - some Edition 2, some Edition 1 and some work in progress as Ed1 or Ed2 or Ed "n"
This gives a snapshot of the various Parts and status as mentioned by the IEC
The subsequent table provides a list of Parts of other Standards that are directly applicable to IEC 61850 applications or vice versa.
Note that just because a particular Part has been issued as a new Edition of an old Edition, this does not mean you don't need to reference the old Edition from time to time i.e.. your library of accessible Standards may need to have all Editions!
The list may be slightly out of date as it is only maintained from time-to-time.
Please check the IEC Webstore (or via your own national Standards body) to buy the latest (and old) versions https://webstore.iec.ch/searchform&q=61850# .
Types of IEC documents
- International Standards (IS):
A normative document, developed according to consensus procedures, which has been approved by the IEC National Committee members of the responsible committee in accordance with Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directives.
https://www.iec.ch/publications/international-standards - Technical Specifications (TS):
These are often published when the subject under question is still under development or when insufficient consensus for approval of an International Standard is available. Technical Specifications approach International Standards in terms of detail and completeness, but have not yet passed through all approval stages either because consensus has not been reached or because standardization is seen to be premature.
https://www.iec.ch/publications/specifications - Publicly available specification (PAS):
These respond to an urgent market need in areas of rapidly evolving technology.
Competing publicly available specifications on the same subject are permitted.
https://www.iec.ch/publications/specifications - Technical Reports (TR):
These are entirely informative in nature and shall not contain matter implying that they are normative.
